2015 El Dorado Viognier Case
Viognier is exotic. It's hard to grow and hard to make. All to often in California it's blowsy, overripe and almost unrecognizable from the elegant wines it produces in its Rhone Valley home of Condrieu. However, we’ve found one of the places in California where viognier can show its true character. Our 2015 Cornerstone Viognier is one of the new exciting wines to join Corallina Syrah Rosé as one of our “Wine Dance” labels featuring the beautiful painting by artist Janet Ekholm.
Our “Wine Dance” labels, of which Corallina Syrah Rosé was our first, are wines inspired by the wines of southern France and Italy. Our current group of new releases are from classic southern French varieties. These are wines full of joy and energy that, while ready to drink tonight, will age beautifully over the next several years.
Our new “Wine Dance” white wine releases this spring are all from the organically farmed David Girard Vineyard in the El Dorado AVA. We have decided to venture outside of the Napa Valley for these varieties as we did not want to be limited in our search to find vineyards that would deliver the most character and complexity to our wines.
Rich and round, but still with refreshing acidity, our Cornerstone Viognier is enticingly exotic without any of the heaviness that makes too many of the California wines from this variety ponderous. The wonderful aromatics, laced with freshcut honeysuckle, will make your mouth water. While joyfully fruity and spicy, this generous wine is barrel fermented to total dryness. This fullbodied white wine is still light on its feet and can really dance!
